Original design had parts on aircraft cable. Parts did not stay together, wore and scuffed quickly and had to be replaced ($300) yearly. Required monthly maintenance. New design, no maintenance for 2 years.
Original design had gray pieces hanging on 18" cables. They became weapons with which to beat on the exhibit and other children. Required monthly maintenance. New design is a better teaching tool and is safer. Maintenance now is oiling the U-joint.
Original design had cable attached to the diaphragm. The cable broke often and the diaphragm had to be replaced 4 times a year. New design uses an air cylinder to move the diaphragm which inflates and deflates the balloon. Maintenance is changing the balloons when they wear out.
